DESCRIPTION:
APW - E. Howard & Co, Boston, Series VIII, 15J, N-S (just over 19S), heavy 14K gold Roy case was originally HC style but has been modified to its present OF form with its front lid pierced and glazed and its bezel discarded, gold cuvette, "Webb C. Ball, Cleveland, O." marked white enamel SS dial, umbrella-style hands, SW-SS, nickel damascene, s#301529. Gross weight of assembled watch 93.7 dwt (145.7 g). This watch is highlighted by its scarce Ball marked dial which exhibits some style elements typical of the work of Josiah Moorhouse, but is not signed as such as the reverse of the dial is marked only with the initials "JE" which is not familiar to us.
CONDITION:
Mvt: NR, fully wound, balance will tick a few moments after a twist, setting mechanism not engaging, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, scattered micro-fine scratches, one balance jewel setting screw is a non-blued replacement; dial with two hls at 5, reverse of dial with abrasion causing finish loss around center; excellent hands, hour with mild bend, minute with oxide to portion of its tip; case front not releasing from its latch when crown is depressed so currently must be snapped open and closed, overhaul recommended for this case issue, case shows ample wear, some dings and nicks to band, majority of rear engine turning detail fully lost with only small portions lightly remaining around center; tight bow, crown shows ample wear with ridge break; good glass crystal.
